Journal Business Model

Introduction

Chemistry and Materials is committed to fostering global accessibility and dissemination of scientific knowledge through a free open-access model. This approach ensures that all readers and authors benefit from unrestricted access to published content, thereby serving the broader professional and scientific communities. To sustain this commitment and cover essential publication costs—including peer review management, journal production, online hosting, and long-term archiving—Chemistry and Materials implements Article Processing Charges (APCs). These charges are levied upon authors, their institutions, or funding bodies for each article accepted for publication.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

All articles accepted for publication are subject to an Article Processing Charge (APC). This charge facilitates the provision of free access to readers and offsets the operational costs associated with maintaining high publication standards, including comprehensive peer review, professional journal production, secure online hosting, and reliable long-term archiving. The APC rate is subject to annual review and may be adjusted at the sole discretion of the publisher.

The submitting author bears the primary responsibility for the payment of the APC. At the time of submission, authors must confirm their commitment to arrange for APC payment should their article be accepted. This responsibility cannot be delegated to a third party without prior agreement from the publisher. It is important to note that APCs are billed only after an article has received a formal acceptance for publication and do not influence the peer review process.

For articles accepted after September 1, 2025, the applicable Article Processing Charge (APC) will be $200.00 USD. Authors are strongly encouraged to assess their potential to secure funding for the APC prior to submission, rather than post-acceptance.

Article Submission Charges (ASC)

Chemistry and Materials does not impose any article submission charges.

  • Corresponding Author H-index: Corresponding authors possessing an h-index of 15 or greater (as recorded in Scopus or Web of Science) are eligible for a full APC waiver.
